SCAM ALERT: Kinross Gold Corporation

If you received a letter form Kinross Gold Corporation informing you that you are hired and that you need to send the appointment letter together with your passport and other documents to a barrister at Canada Border Service Agency to get your visa or work permit, don't get excited.

It's a scam.

Cherry Mae Tejada Surfaced! But who is Mary Rose Lauderez? Be informed, Avoid Scammers!

Remember our post about Cherry Mae Tejada Ferrer?  A scammer introducing herself as Cherry Mae Tejada Ferrer is recruiting workers for Canada. She pretends to be in Canada and used some of Canadian Immigration Consultancy's pictures to deceived applicants.

Few days ago, a certain Cherry Mae Tejada Ferrer (who claims to be the real Cherry May Tejada Ferrer) was also a victim. A victims of identity theft and illegal recruitment.  We invited her to visit our office to clear her name.

Good Hires Canada: Legit or Scam?

Is Good Hires Canada (http://goodhires.ca) legitimate business?  Is it ok to register with Good Hires Canada?  I've seen their Facebook advertisement several months ago but never really give it attention.    But I recently received an email from one of Gateway to Canada readers so I gave it a look.

Our not so dear Senator Sotto once said that immitation is the highest form of flattery in his defense for the alleged plagiarism thrown against him.  But we know better, of course. That kind of response sucks.  Why I mentioned this is because just recently, I learned that Gateway to Canada was being used by online scammers in victimizing job seekers online.  Here's a picture I took when a blog reader showed me the email she received.

The email says it came from Immgration Bureau Ottawa and used once of this blog's previous banners with my picture! She was being offered a job from Victoria Hotel in Canada.

The blog reader almost fell for it and it's a good thing she clicked the banner and learned about the real Canadian Immigration Consultancy.

Jobrapido.Com: Online Job Scam?

I was alerted by one of my blog readers about her experience with www.jobrapido.com.  According to her, she sent resume to employers with job vacancies for caregiver posted at jobrapido.com.  She got a couple of interviews online and one of the "employer" hired her.  She was then asked to send money via MoneyGram.

If you have read my posts about online scams, you'll already see a red flag there.

Now, is jobrapido.com a scam?

I can't say it is.  Jobrapido.com is just a job positing site wherein anyone can post job vacancies.  The site provides a search tool to look for job vacancies.  However, it does not guarantee that the posted job vacancies are verified and not just a scam. 

I searched for 'online scam' using jobrapido.com and here's the result. LOL

For Filipino workers, applying for any job abroad, you must deal only with recruitment agencies registered with Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

Job Offer from Shouldice Hospital | Coaching Interview

This job offer scam for Filipino Nurses using the name of Shouldice Hospital was reported in several papers a couple of days ago. Here's a report from GMA News Network. According to the report, the scammer invites nurses to "coaching interviews" conducted by staff of the said hospitals in Makati in preparation for suppposed interviews to be conducted by the Canadian Embassy in Manila. A P3,888 fee for the coaching interview is required and applicants are being instructed to send payment via Western Union.

It case you received an email supposedly from Shouldice Hospital, well, you've been warned. Check this statement from the official Shouldice Hospital website:

Alert - there is a current email /web job scam.

There have been a recent series of emails and web sites claiming that they are working to provide staff to Shouldice. These claims are false.

- Shouldice Hospital does not offer employment based on an online application only.
- We do not require new employees to undergo “interview coaching” or any other type of training for which a fee is charged.
- We are not involved in any recruitment efforts in the Philippines.

These types of emails are a form of fraud. They will ask for payment in advance and they will take payment without delivering anything.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and the Competition Bureau are joining together during Fraud Prevention Month to warn potential immigrants to be wary of websites claiming to be, or to be affiliated with, official Government of Canada websites.

The following are pieces of advice from CIC and the Competition Bureau on how to avoid becoming a victim of immigration fraud:

Be wary of websites advertised in unsolicited emails from strangers and do not give out personal information unless you know who you are dealing with.

Before hiring an immigration representative, do your homework: ask for a referral from someone you trust, check their credentials, and discuss the services they will offer. For information on how to choose an immigration representative, you may visit CIC’s website at www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/representative/index.asp.

There is no “immigration consultant” website that is part of, or affiliated with, the Government of Canada. If you are suspicious about a website, do a Web search to see if anyone has reported any problems with that site.

Do not pay for offers of guaranteed entry into Canada or faster processing of your application. These claims are false.

Immigration Entry Assessment Fee | Cascadia Hotel and Suites Scam

From Canadian Immigration Consultancy Facebook Page, somebody posted a question on how to pay the Immigration Entry Assessment Fee. According to him, he is a direct hire and is being required to pay the £380 assessment fee to continue the process. I suspected right away that it's just a scam. So I asked him what's the name of the employer and he said it's Cascadia Hotel and Suites Vancouver in British Columbia.

I then asked him to forward at least one of the email messages he received from the employer, including the email address used for me to be certain. Here's the one of the emails he received:

Canadian Employment Services Representative Office | The Resort Hotel Canada Scam

If you are applying for a work permit to legally work in Canada, there is no need to get Certified Employment Clearance from Canadian Employment Services Representative Office.

So if you received a job offer but the employer advised you to contact Canadian Employment Services Representative Office, consider it a red flag. It's a SCAM!

Here's an example from an employer who introduced himself as General Manager of The Resort Hotel Canada:

This is Reference to your documents submission. To further your employment and work permit visa that will enable you live and work in Canada.

To legally work in Canada as a Temporary Foreign Worker, a Labor Market Opinion (LMO) is normally required. It's the employer who needs to get it for you from Human Resource and Skills Development Council (HRSDC).

Once you have the LMO and Employment Contract, you will then have to submit an application for a Temporary Resident Visa to Canadian Visa Office responsible for your country of citizenship or residence. There's no need to get clearance from Canadian Employment Services Representative Office, which does not exist.

Free Canadian Visa | Internet Scam Alert

So you filed an application, you were promised a 6-12 months processing by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. In the middle of the process, you were told that it may take up to years more to process your application.

And then suddenly, you received an e-mail message from noreply@cic.gc.ca advising you that you have been selected for a free Canadian visa. Should you be happy?

No. It's just one of those Internet Scam.

Here's an Internet Scam Alert from Citizenship and Immigration Canada:

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has been advised of an Internet visa scam that involves a convincing copy of the CIC website. An e-mail message (noreply@cic.gc.ca) advises recipients that: “they have been selected for a free Canadian visa” and it includes a link to a fraudulent website: http://aslcpanthers.com/visa.html

E-mail recipients are asked up front to provide personal information and pay an initial fee.

Beware of Internet scams and false websites. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC)’s official website home page is www.cic.gc.ca. Remember, if even one chahttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifracter is different, that means it’s a different website. All Government of Canada websites end in “.gc.ca”

DON’T BE THE VICTIM OF A SCAM. If the offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Kutuma Hotel Canada 2011 Job Offer | Hotel Kutuma Job Scam

Funny I received this email from Hotel Kutuma. The email message was so confusing that I'm not sure if I'm being recruited or if they want me to recruit workers for them.



Here's a screen shot from the website (http://www.hotelkutuma.com) that they have provided. And below is part of the email message:

As per above request we need manpower to work in kutuma hotel in Canada. The total requirements will be 470 workers. just the year our ship line and kutuma hotel need outside workers not inside the Canada

Workers that have the ability to work hard only need to apply and must come from non-criminal origin and must agreed to abide by the kutuma hotels rules and regulations.

Details needed: Bio-data's of these workers in advance for us to do the shortlist before conduction of interview .Also important they must speak some English during interview. They will be tested on the spot and interviewed by the kutuma ship line and kutuma hotel management.

Salary: is very attractive depending on experience to be found in our salary and benefit which will be forwarded to you for your perusal.

Overtime: 2 hrs/day

Public Holiday / Sunday: Double Pay The important thing here is speed. The kutuma ship line and kutuma hotel management wants the whole thing settled in 45days time.

So you think it's legitimate? I don't think so.

First, there's no such thing as Canada Global Immigration office that approves visa. The content of the email is pretty much similar to previous job scams that we have already exposed.

From the way this Sunshine Dairy Foods Company compsed its email, one can easily see that it is just one of those online scams. But if it's your first time to see one like this, well, you may still be victimeized by these scammers.

If you provide them information they're asking, the next letter you will receive is instruction on how to make payment via western union.

Contrary to what this Sunshine Dairy Foods Company is saying, please note that visa/work permit will be issued by the Canadian Visa Office responsible for your country and not by some Visa Bureau officers from Canada.

Primrose Sea Foods Co. Ltd Canada Job Scam

A blog reader sent me en email asking about Primrose Sea Foods Co. Ltd Canada. According to him, he received an email from them and he doubts if the job offer is real.

I searched about Primrose Sea Foods Co. Ltd Canada job vacancies and was amazed on howse these scammers have evolved. Before, they use free email accounts and pretends to be officials of Citizneship and immigration Canada. At first glance, you can easliy determine that it is just a scam. But now, they have learned to make a fancy websites (http://www.primroseseafoods.com/) and unsuspecting applicants may really fall into their scheme.

Based on numerous complaints I found in the net, it appears that these scammers are targetting applicants from India. The visa processing allegedly will be processed in Canadin Visa Office in New Delhi. There are more victims reporting this scam at http://www.consumercomplaints.in.

This is actually similar to Golden Seafods Canada job scam. My theory is that they just changed the name because Golden Seafoods Canada was already exposed.

Don't be a victim of scam. Beware of those who offer guaranteed visas and jobs in Canada.

Jordan Valley Medical Center Does Not Exist

Just in case you received a job offer from Jordan Valley Medical Center, please be informed that Jordan Valley Medical Center does not exist.

Some unscrupulous recruiters are recruiting hospital workers (doctors, nurses, medical technicians, ambulance crew, drivers, etc.) for deployment to Israel but The Philippine Embassy in Israel confirmed that it is just a scam.

It has nothing to do with Canada but posted it here just the same to warn those who may have received similar offer.
