Filipino Plaza in Vancouver

Did you know that there is actually a Filipino Plaza in Vancouver? I just learned about it today when I saw it from twitter. Marieton Pacheco of ABS-CBN North America News Bureau wrote a story about at http://www.abs-cbnnews.com:

The Filipino Plaza in Vancouver is one of the many multi-cultural parks developed in the area during the 1980s.

Nelson Didulo was part of the Filipino Plaza committee of 1985 when government offered various ethnic groups lot area under the Expo Sky Train line in Vancouver.

This was part of Transways BC's parkway program, a showcase of different cultural parks on the 26-kilometer path that parallels the Skytrain.

Didulo said the community raised funds for the Filipino Plaza and decided to put a “sarimanok” near the park’s name.

VANCOUVER—Smoking cigarettes in the parks and beaches of Canada's third largest city is to be banned as of September 1, the Vancouver Park Board has decided.

The elected board voted Monday night to prohibit smoking in some 200 parks and along 18 kilometers (11 miles) of beaches, such as Vancouver's famed Stanley Park, citing opinion surveys that suggest enormous support for the measure. [Source]

This is good news for non-smokers like me. I wonder how Pinoys will react if the same rule will be implemented in Batangas beaches and resorts. :-)

Mark is now in Vancouver!

If you have read my post about Guide for Filipino Nurses, you will be familiar with the case of Mr. Mark Hernandez. For those who are just new here, Mark sent his resume to me for assessment a year ago. He is a Registered Nurse but at the time, he barely have one year work experience. He is not eligible to apply under Federal Skilled Worker program and like what I normally advise to those who are not yet eligible, I told him to start looking for a job offer from Canada (Here's how to find jobs in Canada).


He did and he is now working in the beautiful city of Vancouver!


I haven't met Mark in person but we constantly communicate through email and IM's. Yesterday, he told me that he was able to watch 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics! He also told me that he met Marieton Pacheco last month.
