The Ontario government has released the detailed eligibility requirements for the new Ontario Workforce Priority Stream, providing much-needed guidance for employers and prospective immigrants ahead of the program's launch. While the eligibility criteria are not new—they reflect the amendments to Ontario Regulation 422/17 announced on June 26, 2026—the updated OINP webpages now explain the requirements in greater detail, including applicant qualifications, employer obligations, job offer criteria, work experience, language proficiency, education, and pathway-specific requirements.
One of the most important clarifications is that meeting the eligibility requirements does not automatically allow an applicant to apply for provincial nomination. Eligible candidates must still register an Expression of Interest (EOI) once the new system launches later this summer and compete under Ontario's EOI scoring system for an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
This means that satisfying the minimum eligibility criteria is only the first step—applicants should also focus on strengthening their profiles to maximize their chances of receiving an invitation when the new Ontario Workforce Priority Stream officially opens.
