Canada Looking at Philippines to Fill Need for 60,000 Nurses? Here's how to Apply!

If you're a registered nurse in the Philippines planning to immigrate or work in Canada as a Nurse, these kind of articles will most likely get you excited.  I've just seen an article shared in my Facebook newsfeed with the title, Canada Looking at Philippines to Fill Need for 60,000 Nurses.  The said article was actually based on the Cebu Daily News article with original title as Canada Needs 60,000 Nurses. Huge difference.

The article was based on the statements of Tony Burke, vice president of OMNI College of Nursing in Vancouver, Canada, the Guest Speaker for Canada Nursing Expo in Cebu City last Saturday.
"Burke said Canada’s aging population requires more nurses to take care of the elderly, but Canadian universities just can’t produce Canadian-trained nurses fast enough.
The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) earlier predicted that Canada would be in need of at least 60,000 nurses by 2020 to fill the labor shortage.
He said the best and most effective way to address this gap is to hire internationally educated nurses such as those from the Philippines."
So there. Canada IS NOT Looking at Philippines to Fill Need for 60,000 Nurses. Don't get excited.

If you want to work as a Nurse in Canada, you need to get registered first.

In Canada, nursing is a profession that includes 3 regulated nursing groups: Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN).  There is no national registration/licensure process for nurses in Canada. Each province has its own regulatory body and assessment process.

Regardless of which group you want to be registered with and which Province you want to practice profession (except Quebec), your first step is to send your application to National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS) for assessment.  Here's How:http://www.nnas.ca/how-to-apply/
