IELTS and Quebec Skilled Worker Program

I'm not exactly sure where it started, but I have been receiving emails from blog readers and clients verifying if it's true that IELTS and French Language test is no longer required under the new Quebec Skilled Worker program.  These questions apparently came from ill-advised applicants who consulted with the wrong people. Let me explain...

In order to gain points from the Language Factor using the points system, you need to submit official test results.

For French language, you need to submit attestation of test results or a diploma recognized by the Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles.  The following tests and diplomas are recognized:

– Test de connaissance du français pour le Québec (TCFQ)
– Test de connaissance du français (TCF)
– Test d’évaluation du français adapté pour le Québec (TEFAQ)
– Test d’évaluation du français (TEF)
– Diplôme d’études en langue française (DELF)
– Diplôme approfondi de langue française (DALF)

For English language, you need IELTS test result.

Again, you need official test results ONLY of you want to claim points for the language factor.  But is it possible to meet the pass mark even without points from language factor?  Possibly. But consider this:

- A total of 22 points can be awarded under the language factor. It's the most valued factor in the selection criteria;
- Passmark is 55 points for Single and 63 points for those with spouse;
- 6 points from the Adaptability factor may be awarded upon the interview.

Now, if you're single and you submit your application with only a total of 49 points, the only way your application will be approved is if you will be awarded 6 points for the adaptability.  You want to take that risk? Go ahead.

If you are seriously considering to live and work in Quebec, you must at least try to learn the French language.  Quebec is pre-dominantly French speaking Canadian Province.

If you want to have a better chance of approval, submit IELTS test result.  You need all the points you can get, unless of course if you just want to rely on luck.
