The ALGARRA MIRANDA & GIRON is a Manila-based law
firm providing full legal service to its clients. The firm was tapped by leading Canadian
Immigration lawyer, CECIL ROTENBERG, to conduct an information dissemination
campaign in the Philippines to reach Filipinos who are affected by Canada’s new
immigration law, the “Jobs, Growth and Long Term Prosperity Act of 2012”.
The new law authorizes the Canadian Minister of Immigration
to terminate the processing of ALL pending applications for Permanent Residence
to Canada as a Federal Skilled Worker if the application fits two (2) criteria:
a. the application was filed BEFORE 27 February 2008; and
b. as of 29
March 2012, the applicant has not yet passed the selection criteria.
Globally, an estimated 280,000 applications are affected. An
approximate 10% are Filipino applicants.
The Canadian Ministry of Justice has agreed to delay the
return of the applications for 90 days. The
90 day period will end on 29 September 2012.
CECIL ROTENBERG has filed a legal action with the Federal
Courts of Canada seeking to compel the Canadian Government to resume processing
the applications of the petitioners. CECIL ROTENBERG, with over 50 years of
experience in Canadian immigration law practice, is licensed to practice in
Ontario where the Federal Courts of Canada sit.
